Leadership Development Training

Opportunity Knocks works with current and future leaders to build upon their individual strengths to motivate others and to create successful and productive work environments through offering half day, one day, or two day leadership training workshops. We offer customized processes for providing individuals with coaching, and on-going feedback to help them motivate others, foster innovation, create productive environments, and achieve results. Specifically, we are certified to provide the Healthy Companies International Grounded® Leader model. The model has three components - who you are, what you do, and how you perform. "Who You Are" is broken into the six dimensions of health: Physical, Emotional, Intellectual, Social, Vocational and Spiritual. By first assessing and then strengthening each of these dimensions, leaders are better able to meet or exceed the demands of their positions (i.e., "What You Do"). Effective leaders then drive the business objectives their organizations strive toward as represented in the final portion of the Grounded® Leader Model, "How You Perform". Our offerings can include both individual coaching on results of a Grounded® Leader 360? assessment, and group workshops where the organization's "what you do" and "how you perform" are explored based upon the individual leader's "who you are" results. The program is designed to challenge the way participants currently think and work, guiding them toward a new way that will help provide them the necessary tools to be successful, healthy and grounded leaders. This leadership development approach achieves its best results when clear organizational objectives are set-everyone can be aligned with the strategy. Our clients have benefited from conducting their strategy planning first so the "How You Perform" part of the Model is established. The leaders can see a line of sight from their individual dimensions of health through to the organization's goals.

Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Assessment and Coaching

Opportunity Knocks is qualified to purchase Consulting Psychologist Press' MBTI® materials, and design and conduct either individual debriefings and/or team workshops to interpret the results. A typical MBTI training consists of participants taking the individual instrument and then holding a half to one day training session to discuss results in a group setting. Another option for the training would be to do individual training sessions per person vs. the full group session.

Team Building Training

Opportunity Knocks offers team building efforts to empower employees to meet cross functional challenges, be more mission focused, and to achieve more, thus saving time and money. Our team building trainings include a first step of conducting a team assessment (e.g., interviews, surveys, etc.) to determine priority focus for the team building. This is followed by team workshop facilitation to address those priorities and present current theories and practices for effective teams. Follow-up action plans are developed and we offer continued monitoring or "check-ins" with the team on effectiveness progress. Team Building trainings are offered for one day, two days, or three days depending upon client needs.

Transition Management Training

Opportunity Knocks provides a two day course to provide leadership and/or teams with a methodology to ensure they are ready to implement changes coming to the organization. These changes can be in the areas of strategy, management, policies & procedures, technology, and/or reorganizations. Opportunity Knocks trains groups on how to conduct a three phased process of organization alignment, gap identification, and gap closure. Organization alignment ensures all appropriate stakeholders are identified and involved in the process. It also results in the definition of a future state vision for the change. Gap identification is the process phase to assess the differences between the current state and the desired future state. This results in the documentation of organization readiness gaps in the areas of staffing, employee training, communications, processes, policies and/or procedures, financials, and assets. Further instruction is provided on the development of a transition management plan to document the identified gaps and a strategy to close them, in order to achieve effective change.

Other Offerings

Change Management Planning & Facilitation

Managing change effectively requires both a sound strategy and people with the knowledge and skills to implement the strategy to meet an organization's objectives. Opportunity Knocks offers change management planning services and workshops to guide organizations through culture change, process change, and/or change due to information technology implementations or reorganizations. We provide the strategies, tools, and processes you need to overcome change fatigue, fear of the unknown, mistrust, and other change barriers in order to achieve desired results. Our approach involves the client in the solution by helping them maneuver through transitions, strengthen leadership, and build cohesive teams enabling them to implement effective, long-lasting change.

Facilitation - Meetings & Workshops

Designing and implementing an effective and productive event/meeting with outcomes that contribute to a larger organizational objective is essential. Whether a conference, an off-site retreat, or a tactical session, we design and facilitate meetings and events that are goal oriented, stay on task, ensure participation, and are a valuable use of time. We provide the following planning items as part of this offering: goal and agenda definition, audience definition, and meeting venue selection. We then provide a facilitator(s) to help run an effective meeting. We are there to help reach the stated meeting goals and stay true to the schedule. As issues or conflict arise, we provide the needed coaching and direction to ensure forward progress. While much work happens at a meeting, there usually is even more work afterwards. We help clients document meeting results, track action items, ensure accountability, and recommend next steps. In addition, we follow-up with meeting participants to evaluate meeting effectiveness.

Organization Climate Assessments

Organization climate assessments are highly effective ways to assess your organization's performance in multiple dimensions - it can be culture, leadership, team or overall operational effectiveness, understanding of employee perceptions on a variety of topics, etc. Opportunity Knocks uses a standard six step process as follows: (1) Determine most effective way of collecting the data (e.g., in person interviews, online survey, or combination); (2) Create a customized data collection tool based upon client communicated high level purpose of the assessment; (3) Collect data; (4) Perform data analysis to determine trends; (5) Document results in the form of a report of summary findings (including supporting comments), and recommendations; (6) Share results to client determined audience (i.e., leadership only, full organization, etc.). As a result, the organization gains a better understanding of both strengths and weaknesses in its culture or climate which can inform future priorities for strategy, structure, process, and relationships.

Strategic Planning

We see strategic planning as a tool to craft the decisions and actions that shape and guide what an organization is and what it does. Our strategic planning work focuses on looking to the future for opportunities. We help clients identify a future vision, set goals, and develop an approach for achieving those goals. We facilitate client groups through four phases of work: Alignment & Preparation, Strategy Innovation & Validation, Organization Alignment, and Operational Planning. As a result, a strategy document or full strategic and operational plans are products we deliver. Effective operational work plans are detailed, with specific deliverables, timelines, and identification of accountable parties. We work with clients to develop these plans, and coach clients through implementation of the plans.

Strategic Planning with Team Dynamics

Opportunity Knocks' experience has determined that many times ineffective team dynamics may stem from lack of alignment on organization strategy. Accordingly, we offer to integrate team dynamics assessments & interventions while conducting the strategic planning process identified above. This integration enables teams to work on improving their effectiveness while focusing on the substance of the work for which they are accountable.

Transition Planning

Opportunity Knocks provides transition planning facilitation to enable organizations to build readiness for change so results will be achieved more effectively. The fact is that resistance starts early on, and waiting only makes the task of managing resistance more costly and time consuming. Opportunity Knocks facilitates a three phased process of organization alignment, gap identification, and gap closure. A product is then produced in the form of a transition management plan with the identified gaps and a strategy to close them, in order to achieve effective change. During the third phase of the process, gap closure, we monitor and track closure of the gaps and assist when necessary in this closure.
